Making people and ideas findable

I am organizing an event for my International Culture and Language Exchange club; specifically a carry-in dinner and group dance lesson. I would like to hold the event on September 12 and I am hoping to have 50 to 75 people showing. I tried to get the Wheeler Arts Center theater, but it is booked.

So now I am looking for alternate venues. Does anyone know of any spaces that rent for a very reasonable price (or free) so that I don't have to charge a large cover for people who want to come to this?

The other option would be to make reservations at a restaurant that has the same theme as this get together--the only problem being adequate space for dancing....

Thanks in advance for any ideas!

I was at Mr. Zee's and they have a meeting space. I don't know anything about charges, although it might just be "buy dinner and space is free."

What is the theme/culture you're showcasing? There might be some restaurants that would make some time for you. For example, Macchu Piccu on W. 38th is Peruvian (and they're one of my favorites).

There is also the Riviera Club on Illinois in Broadway.

The problem you might run into is finding adequate space on a Friday night.

We are having a Middle Eastern hafla--complete with bellydancers (myself included! LOLOL), live band, and ME pop music. So I do know of some restaurants, but I don't know if they could handle the potential group of people who would want to stick around for the group lesson that we are going to offer. Plus, I would like to be able to have alcohol on the premises.

If nothing else, I can use the church where I work, but it is not that high on the "ambiance" scale and it would have to be a dry party. Not that we are a group of party-hardy lushes or anything, but a glass or two of wine with dinner is a nice option.

At least I have almost 6 weeks still to plan....

Not high on ambiance, but alcohol is allowed -- the KofC Hall at 71st and Keystone.

Carrie,

Does it need to be in Indy? There is a beautiful banquet facility here in Mooresville. It's just 20 minutes SW of downtown Indy.

Let me know if that's an option and I'll get you more info!

There a new place called Internacional Convention Center that has been created to cater to the Latino community. Some friends of friends, plan to host quinceros and such. I figure it could support more than 75 people. I don't have all the details, but I could get you contact information if you'd like it.
