Event Description

Storytelling Arts of Indiana is proud to annually present the Frank Basile Emerging Stories Fellowship and Premiere. This unique fellowship provides funding for two Indiana storytellers to create a new 45-minute story for adult audiences. On Saturday, November 14, 2009, the two recipients, Josefa Crowe and Sally Perkins will premiere their new works at the Eugene and Marilyn Glick Indiana History Center beginning at 7:30 p.m.

Josefa Crowe will share her story of Growing Up Under the Swastika during Hitler’s dictatorship in Germany. It is the story of her attempt to reconcile the values she learned at home – the quiet, gentle passive resistance with those of the brutal, hateful Nazi ideology she learned at school. The time of her youth was full of contradictions, confusion and fear, not to mention the horror of war. But Josefa believes that all horrors can be borne when you put them into stories. Josefa is a long-time member of the As I Recall Storytelling Guild that meets monthly at the Glendale Branch Library.

Sally Perkins will trace the lives of two miniature poodles and their ignorant owners through the hilarious events from puppyhood to adulthood. Dealing with the dogs’ carsickness, puppy rivalry, OCD-like behaviors, strokes and other ailments, the owners find themselves learning life lessons that only a pet can teach. Sally is a current participant in our storytelling program at Riley Hospital for Children.

Tickets are $10 in advance or $12 at the door. To order tickets or for more information, call the Indiana History Center at

(317) 232-1882 or (800) 447-1830 or purchase tickets on-line, www.storytellingarts.org. Limited Free parking is available at the Indiana History Center in its parking lot at the corner of West and New York streets.
